Hinsdale Humane Society our new Making a Difference partner

For many people in town, mention the Hinsdale Humane Society and their thoughts will turn to a beloved pet. It’s no wonder. Just last year, almost 900 animals were adopted from the shelter.
And while finding new homes for pets who need them is a critical part of its mission, the Hinsdale Humane Society does so much more. That is why we chose the Hinsdale Humane Society as our Making a Difference partner for 2014-15.
We’ll start the series this month with an overview story introducing readers to the organization and some of its key leaders. The article also will give us a chance to share some of the history of the humane society, which was founded in 1953, and explain its connection to Morris the Cat.
Other articles over the next nine months will look at what factors families should consider when choosing a pet, how to go about adopting a pet and what is involved in becoming a foster parent for a pet.
We’ll highlight one of the society’s volunteers during National Volunteer Month is April and introduce you to some of the members of the society’s junior board and the HHS Ambassadors.
We’ll also share how the pet therapy program has made a difference for pet owners and the folks they visit. Since pets can make for some pretty funny — and heartwarming — photos, we hope to include plenty of those as well.
Other story possibilities include the society’s humane education program, its obedience classes, the summer pet camp, stray care, the behavior help line and the annual pet walk.
Choosing the Hinsdale Humane Society as our Making a Difference partner for the next year was easy. The organization is responsible for bringing joy to so many families. It has a dedicated staff and a wonderful group of volunteers who work to make sure everything runs smoothly.
We’re anxious to learn more about the Hinsdale Humane Society and to share that knowledge with readers. After all, that’s the purpose behind Making a Difference — to help residents become more familiar with the nonprofit organizations located in       Hinsdale and the good work they do.
We hope you enjoy getting better acquainted with the Hinsdale Humane Society as much as we do.
