OBITUARIES:  (published April 26, 2018)

John Lewis Cook
  
John Lewis Cook of Hinsdale passed away April 6, 2018.
   John, 89, was born in 1928 and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After graduating high school, he went on to Creighton University and the University of Iowa, where he played football.
   He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Munich, Germany. Upon his return, he received his degree from Northwestern University and went to work for Western Electric before opening his own business which he operated for many years. He was a sports enthusiast and was a two-term president of the Hinsdale Boosters club. He enjoyed ski trips to Vail, Colo., and summer vacations in northern Wisconsin where he love to ski and fish.
   He is survived by his sons, Clark (Holly) Cook of Hinsdale and Gregg Cook of Clarendon Hills; their mother, Joanne Cook of Hinsdale; his grandsons, Colin (Amy) Cook and Garrett Cook; his sister, Delores O’Brien; and his two nieces.
   Services were private.

Caroline R. Cornell
  
Caroline R. Cornell, nee Donley, 93, died April 18, 2018, at her home in Bethlehem Woods in LaGrange Park.
   She was born in 1924 in DuQuoin.
   Caroline was a lifelong resident of Herrin before moving to Washington Square in Hinsdale.    She was a member of Herrin Woman’s’ Club, Beta Sigma Phi and the First Christian Church of Herrin.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace E. Cornell Jr.; and her daughter, Karen Rose Ann Russell.
   She is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Carson) Cornell Yeager; her grandchildren, Caroline Russell Sanders, Elizabeth Caroline Yeager and Caroline Cornell Yeager; and her great-grandchildren, Savannah Karen Sanders and Landon Sanders.
   Interment will be private at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy.

Kathleen Rita Henry
  
Kathleen Rita Henry, nee Lawler, 68, of Clarendon Hills died April 10, 2018, at Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale.
   She was born in 1949 in Milwaukee.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rita Lawler; and her nephew, Jeremy Lawler.
   She is survived by her daughter, Colleen (Sean) Reiche; her siblings, Mark (Sue) Lawler, Margaret “Peggy” Lawler, Maureen (the late Gary) George, Patrick (Eymarde) Lawler and Michael (Margaret) Lawler; and her nieces and nephews, Shaun Lawler, Erin George, Margaret “Maggie” George, Faith (Kerry) Storms, Grace (Tyler) Hallstrom, Devin Lawler and Owen Lawler.
   A funeral Mass was said April 14 at Notre Dame Church in Clarendon Hills.
   Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
   Sullivan Family Funeral Homes in Hinsdale handled the arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Kurth
  
Mary Elizabeth Kurth, 89, a former longtime resident of Hinsdale, died April 20, 2018, at her home in Upatoi, Ga.
   Mrs. Kurth was born in 1929 in Riverside to Willis Francis Biederman and Sara Elizabeth Martin Biederman. Mrs. Kurth and her husband moved to Upatoi after raising their children in Hinsdale.
   She was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Parish and was employed as a neurology technician.
   She was preceded in death by her son, Bruce Kurth; and her brothers, James and John Biederman.
   She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Thomas Paul Kurth; her children, Anne Marie (James) Tuck, Loretta (John) Wawak of Hinsdale, Thomas M. (Darlonda) Kurth, Edward (Camille) Kurth, John (Anita) Kurth, Richard (Cindy) Kurth and Jeffery Silberstorf; her brother, Edward Biederman; her 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
   A funeral Mass was said April 24 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Columbus, Ga.
   A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Fullersburg Cemetery in Hinsdale.

Gertrude Beukema Price
   Gertrude Beukema Price, nee Vander Schaaf, 90, a longtime Hinsdale resident, died April 21, 2018.
   Gertrude, 90, was married to former Hinsdale Police Chief John Beukema for 28 years.    Following his death, she married Emmanuel Price, a union that lasted 33 years until his passing.
   She was crossing guard for The Lane School from 1962-68 and worked as a cashier at Gee Lumber from 1968-75. Her faith in God was the cornerstone of her life. God helped her face the sorrow of losing two husbands and two sons. She was a tireless worker, both at home and volunteering, and enjoyed cooking for loved ones, card games and playing practical jokes.
   In addition to her  husbands, she was preceded in death by her sons, John and Mark; and her siblings, Fred Vander Schaaf and Genevieve Van Byssum.
   She is survived by her children, Dennis (Richard Motta) Beukema and Karen (Phillip) Goers; her nine grandchildren; her eight great-children; and many nieces and nephews.
   A memorial Service will be held at 6:30 tonight, April 26, at the Christian Reformed Church of Western Springs, 5140 Wolf Road. A time of fellowship will follow.
   Interment is private.

Dolores Ruth Prokupek
   Dolores Ruth Prokupek, 92, died April 19, 2018, at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla, Ind.
   Mrs. Prokupek was born in 1925 in Harding to Fred and Isabelle (Peterson) Friestad. She married Alvin Joseph Prokupek on July 10, 1955, in Hinsdale.
   Dolores was a registered nurse for 40 years and employed with Dr. LaRue in Western Springs. She also worked at Hinsdale Seventh-day Adventist Hospital as well as in private duty nursing. Dolores was active in the past in the Hinsdale Seventh-day Adventist Church.
   She loved spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, collecting, going on long walks, making jellies, cats and visiting her childhood family farm.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Prokupek; her two sisters, Arlene Friestad and Marjorie Taggart; and her two brothers, Francis Friestad and Stanley Friestad.
   She is survived by her son, Craig (Jody); and her grandchildren, Joelle (Chris Dempewolf) Prokupek, Haley (Cesar) Reis, Jay Prokupek (fiancĂ© Amanda Ogden).
   Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Hite Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St., Kendallville. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 6 p.m.
   Burial will take place Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery in Ottawa.

Robert A. Schwieger
   Robert A. Schwieger, 79, died on April 14, 2018, at The Grove of Fox Valley.
   Robert was born in 1938 at Hinsdale Hospital and attended Zion Lutheran Elementary School in Hinsdale until the family moved to Lyndon Station, Wis. He was a graduate of Concordia High School and attended Concordia College in Milwaukee. Robert was a major in the U.S. Army and served as a pilot in Vietnam. He worked as a limo driver.
   He was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Carl.
   He is survived by his soulmate, Lena Doyle; his children, Bob Jr.(Anne), Scott and Mark (Buffy); his grandchildren, Jazmyne, Taylor, Greyson, Gage, Alex, Jazmynn, Justin, Jacqulynn, Kendall, and Emory; his siblings, Herb (the late Helen and the late Joyce) and Carol (Richard) Luther; and many nieces and nephews.
   Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Calvary Church of Naperville, 9S200 Route 59.
   A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the church.
   Interment will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Zion Cemetery in Oak Brook.

Robert E. Wangard
   Robert E. Wangard, 79, of Hinsdale passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018.
   He was born in 1939 in Kennan, Wis.
   He was a retired attorney with Ross & Hardies, where he was chairman of the executive committee, and later at McGuire Woods. In retirement he published nine mystery novels.
   He is survived by his wife, Helen; his son, Jon; his daughter, Alison; and his two granddaughters, Hailey and Caitlin.
   A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield Ave.
   A reception will follow at Hinsdale Golf Club, 140 Chicago Ave., Clarendon Hills.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the The Community House, 415 W. Eighth St., Hinsdale, IL 60521; or Hinsdale Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 130, Hinsdale, IL 60522.
