OBITUARIES:  (published May 10, 2018)

Dr. Orlando S. Cuasay
Dr. Orlando S. Cuasay, 74, of Oak Brook, died unexpectedly surrounded by his loving family Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
   He was born in 1943 in the Philippines. He was a dedicated physician and colleague, friend of many, and faithful and loving servant of God.
   He is survived by his wife, Caridad L. Cuasay, nee Licuanan; his children, Rosalyn C. (Carl) Nicpon, Thad L. (Valerie) Cuasay and Kevin L. (Monica) Cuasay; his grandchildren, Elijah and Jonah Nicpon, Madeleine, Eleanor and Ethan Cuasay, Cohen, Coralie and Cassius Cuasay; his siblings, Adoracion C. Villarama, Ramon S. (Lourdes) Cuasay, and Nestor S. (Lucy) Cuasay; his siblings-in-law, Bienvenido L. Licuanan, Jesus L. Licuanan, Wilfredo L. Licuanan, Florencio L. Licuanan, Carmelita L. Dithmer, Jose Gilberto L. Licuanan and Grace L. Earnst; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
   Visitation is at 3 today, May 10, at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 S. Grant St., Hinsdale, with a Novena at 8:30 p.m.
   Family and friends will gather at 9:45 a.m. Friday, May 11, at the funeral home before proceeding to Notre Dame Parish, 64 Norfolk Ave., Clarendon Hills, for a 10:30 a.m. Mass.
   Inurnment will be private.

Susan Jane Geiersbach
Susan Jane Geiersbach, nee Peterson, 76, of Hinsdale died May 1, 2018.
   She was born in 1942 in Buffalo, Minn. Susan was a longtime resident of Hinsdale, first moving to the area in 1965. She spent a career in nursing, most recently as a hospice nurse.       She loved travel, both domestic and international. A devotee of the theater and live music, she liked nothing more than time with her friends and family.
   She is survived by her children, Rik (Carolyn Burger) and Pepper Geiersbach; her grandchildren, Katrina, Annika and William Geiersbach, and Delaney and Ian Geiersbach; her former husband, Al Geiersbach; and many cousins.
   Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 139 E. First St., Hinsdale.
   A luncheon will follow at Ruth Lake Country Club, 6200 S. Madison St., Hinsdale.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church Renewal Fund, 139 E. First St., Hinsdale, IL 60521 or online at
   Sullivan Funeral Home in Hinsdale handled the arrangements.

Jean Lillian Geurkink
Jean Lillian Geurkink, nee Gustafson, 84, passed away May 2, 2018, after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma.
   Jean was born on the South Side of Chicago in 1933, the daughter of John and Vera (Lovegren) Gustafson, and sister of older brother Donald. She attended Chicago Christian High, where she met her beloved husband Bob and they began their nearly 70 year relationship.
   She attended both North Park and Wheaton College, graduating summa cum laude from Wheaton in 1954.
   She taught junior high English in Blue Island, in addition to many philanthropic roles she played throughout her life. She became a currency trader on the International Monetary Market at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in its formation. She culminated her career as an addictions counselor at New Day Center in Hinsdale for over a decade.
   She and Bob raised their daughters in Hinsdale, and chose Hinsdale Covenant as their church home. Jean loved singing in choirs, baking for others and was a pure light in this world. Her faith was central in her life — she was filled with beauty, grace and generosity, with an open heart for everyone.
   She is survived by her husband, Bob; her four daughters, Linda (Jim) DeGrado, Susan (Bill) Leonhard, Roberta (David) Southard and Laurel (Bob) Carignan; her nine grandchildren; and her four great-grandchildren.
   A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 18, at Hinsdale Covenant Church, 412 S. Garfield Ave, Hinsdale.
     Internment will be private at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook.
   In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to Wynscape Rehabilitation Center, 2180 W. Manchester Road, Wheaton, IL, 60187.

Edmund Meier
Edmund “Eddie” Meier, 68, of Darien died May 7, 2018, at Amita Adventist Medical Center in Hinsdale.
   He was born in 1949 in Humberg, Germany.
   He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Marty (Mickey).
   He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen “Meme,” nee Koncel; his sister, Annelie (Klaus) Langenhan; his niece, Claudia Langenhan; his siblings-in-law, Jerry (Mary B), Connie (Rich), Bette Lou (Ken), Tony (Maria), Kathy (Henry), Patrick, Christina (Kevin) and Micki (Rob); and many nieces and nephews.
   Being who he was, he surprised his family by being a Gift of Hope donor.
   Interment will be private.
   A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
   Hickey Memorial Chapels in Midlothian handled the arrangements.
