Carole Magnuson
Carole Lynn Magnuson, nee Sahlin, of Chicago and Lakeside, Mich., and a former long-time resident of Hinsdale, passed away on June 22, 2019, at her Chicago home.
Carole, 86, was born in 1932 in Tacoma, Wash. She attended North Park College and Augustana College, graduating in 1954 with a degree in music education. On Nov. 27, 1954, Carole married Bruce in Tacoma, and they began married life in South Bend, Ind., followed by moves to La Grange, Hinsdale, Oak Brook and Burr Ridge.    Carole balanced raising a family with stints as a church organist and Eastern Airlines agent, also volunteering for Hinsdale Sanitarium & Hospital, Infant Welfare Society and Hinsdale Garden Club. She was an accomplished musician with myriad talents ranging from soprano soloist and choir member to professional pianist, organist and occasional accordion aficionado. She and Bruce enjoyed traveling the world. At home, she hosted large and small gatherings with ease, impressing all with her culinary expertise and flair for entertaining.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul E. Sahlin, Sr. and Elinda F. Sahlin, nee Olson; and her daughter, Ann.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bruce; her children, Karin, Elizabeth and Peter (Erin) Magnuson; her grandchildren, Stewart and Elinda; and her brother, Paul Sahlin, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Hinsdale Covenant Church, 412 S. Garfield St.
Memorials are appreciated to Covenant Retirement Village of Northbrook, 2625 Techny Road, Northbrook, IL 60062, with “Benevolent Fund” in the notation.
Brian Powell Funeral Directors of Hinsdale made the arrangements .
