OBITUARIES:  (published July 5, 2018)

Hazel Barr
  
Hazel Barr, 89, a 60-year resident of Hinsdale, died June 29, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Chicago.
   Known by her friends as “Heavenly Hazel of Hinsdale,” Hazel was born in 1928 in Chicago and raised in Oak Park, attended boarding school and the School of Communications at Northwestern University. A slender, elegant woman with a small town smile, Hazel traveled to New York City after college, where she became involved in theater and runway modeling. Hazel married businessman Warren Barr and returned to Chicago, eventually making their home in Hinsdale to raise their children. A 50-year member of The Service Club of Chicago, Hazel chaired benefits and organized fashion shows for decades. Her philanthropic efforts were far-reaching and she left her mark on many lives.
   She is preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie.
   She is survived by her husband, Warren N. Barr II; her children, Warren N. Barr III, Karen Hjordis Smith and Robert (Holly) Barr; and her grandchildren, Ashley Barr, Margaret Louise Barr, Justin Nicholas (Amanda) Smith, Alexander Ryland Smith and Chelsea Hjordis Smith.       Services will be private.

   Brian Powell Funeral Directors of Hinsdale handled the arrangements.

Rosemarie D. Boulanger
  
Rosemarie D. Boulanger, nee Bitsky, 93, of Clarendon Hills died June 28, 2018.
Rosemarie was born in 1924 in Chicago.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo A. Boulanger Jr.
   She is survived by her children, Leo A. Boulanger III, William A. (Karen) Boulanger, Chad (Kathy) Boulanger and Ann (Thomas) Cahill; her grandchildren, Emily, Dan, Jackie (Matt), Nicole (Ryan), Jamie, Brendan and Lea; and her great-grandchildren, Oliver, Evan, Tessa and Makenna.
   A funeral Mass was said July 3 at Notre Dame Church in Clarendon Hills.
   Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
   Sullivan Funeral Home in Hinsdale handled the arrangements.

Thelma Basham Mahoney
  
Thelma Basham Mahoney, 93, passed away peacefully June 26, 2018.
Thelma was born and raised in Owensboro, Ken., and lived much of her life in Hinsdale. She graduated from Nazareth College in Kentucky, and continued her education at NYU, where she received her master’s degree in education. She went on to teach thousands of students in college and high school across the country, spending most of her career in the Chicago suburbs.
   Thelma had a passion for life. She loved water skiing, coaching and competing in sports, socializing, singing, and playing piano and trumpet. She spent many treasured summers with friends and family at “Kincora,” her home on Kentucky Lake, where many a water ski, card game and cocktail were enjoyed. She cherished her family, was proud to be Irish and was devoted to her Catholic faith. She will be deeply missed.
   She was preceded in death by her husband John J. Mahoney of New York; her siblings, James and Mary; her special companion, Chester Jatczak; and her first husband, Albert Harnstrom, who died tragically.
   Thelma is survived by her daughter, Terri (Peter) Mahoney-Ogden; and her grandchildren, Meghan (Michael) Lloyd, Molly, Jack and Henry Ogden; along with Tim Mahoney, Patricia Monson and other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
   A Mass was said July 2 at St. Anthony on the Lake Catholic Church in Pewaukee, Wis.
   Memorials may be made to the Marquette University Child Care Center, 500 N. 19th St., Milwaukee, WI 53233.
