OBITUARIES:  (published Sept. 21, 2017)

Anna Marie Datcu
Anna​ ​M​arie​​ ​Datcu, 87, a longtime resident of Oak Brook,​ ​passed​ ​away​ Sept.​ ​15,​ ​2017​, at Burgess Square Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Westmont.
   She was born in Chicago in 1930 to ​Felice​ ​and​ ​Anna​ ​DiGangi​, nee​ ​Castro.
   A retired bank bookkeeper, Anna​ ​will​ ​be remembered​ ​for​ ​her​ ​humor,​ ​artistic​ ​talents,​ ​generous​ ​heart,​ ​service​ ​to​ ​the Lord​ ​​and​ ​never-ending​ ​devotion​ ​and​ ​love​ ​to​ ​her​ ​family​ ​and​ ​friends.
   She was preceded​ ​in death​ ​by​ ​her​ ​husband of 41 years,​ ​Emil​ ​Datcu​; her ​siblings​, ​Josephine (Guy) Gange​,​ ​Rose​ (Fred)​ Hornbeck​, Frank​ (Virginia)​ DiGangi​​,​ ​Joseph​ ​(Denise)​ DiGangi​ ​​and Frances​ ​Reilly​ ​(Robert); and her nephews, ​Rob​ ​Reilly and Joe (Marion)​​ ​Castro.
   She is survived by her ​daughter, ​Anne​ ​Marie (Samuel W.) Dando;​ ​her grandchildren, Samantha​ ​and​ ​Sammy Dando; her ​sister​, Jeri (Casey) Prestia; her nieces and nephews, ​Diane​ (Dixon) ​Landers​,​ ​Jim​ (Linda) ​Gange​​,​ ​Lee​ (Les) ​Mahn​,​ ​Renee​​ ​(Jim) ​Swade, Bob (Becky)​ ​Prestia​,​ ​Gary ​(Darlene) ​Prestia​,​ ​​Philip​​ ​​(Janice) DiGangi,​ ​Paul​ (Mavis) ​DiGangi​,​ ​Joe​ ​(Heather) DiGangi,​ ​Denise​ ​DiGangi,​ ​Felicia​ ​Reilly, Tony (Jetta) ​Castro​,​ ​John​ ​Castro​ ​(the late Helene)​ ​and​ ​Jim (Joanna) Castro​.​ ​​A funeral Mass was said Sept. 19 at Our Lady’s Chapel at Mayslake Village in Oak Brook.
   Interment at was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hillside.
   In​ ​lieu​ ​of​ ​flowers,​ ​memorials may be made to​ ​Mayslake​ ​Village​, 1801 35th St., Oak Brook​, IL 60523.
   Brian Powell Funeral Directors of Hinsdale handled the arrangements.

Mariel F. Schlesinger
Mariel F. Schlesinger, nee Fritz, 88, a longtime Hinsdale resident, died Sept. 16, 2017, at Amita Adventist Medical Center in Hinsdale.
   Mariel was a 66-year area resident, calling Oak Brook, Clarendon Hills and La Grange home before moving to Hinsdale.
   She graduated from Purdue University, where she met Otto and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband around the world and was especially fond of going on cruises.
   Mariel served as a trustee of the Flagg Creek Water District for 27 years. She was past president and treasurer of the Hinsdale Humane Society, past president of the Hinsdale Women’s Republican Club, a strong supporter of the Illinois Republican Party, and a legislative aide to the late State Rep. George Ray Hudson.
   She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Otto J. Schlesinger Jr.; her son, Otto (Barbara) Schlesinger III; and her brother, Robert Fritz.
   She is survived by her children, Thomas (Deborah) Schlesinger, John (Pamela) Schlesinger and Robert Schlesinger; her grandchildren, Otto Schlesinger IV (fiancé Amy Rys), Timothy (Kristin) Schlesinger, Kurt (Kimberly) Schlesinger, Kimberly (Andrew) Vaughan, Sunjay (Isa) Sedani and Rita (Bryan) Pesartic; her great-grandchildren, Jack Thomas, Caroline Grace, Lily Maude, Jack Otto, Kira, Isaac, Olivia and Jacob.
   Visitation is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Adolf Funeral Home & Cremation Services Ltd., 7000 S. Madison St., Willowbrook.
   A service will follow at noon at the funeral home.
   Interment will be at St. John Community Cemetery in Oak Brook.
