Robert E. Dennis
Robert “Bob/Bobby” E. Dennis of Bradley passed away Sept. 21, 2018, surrounded by his family.
   Bob, 78, was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. in 1939, to Laurence Clayton Dennis Sr. and Irene Jahnke. He attended Hylandale Academy in Rockland, Wis., and went on to work at Hinsdale Sanitarium and Hospital (now Amita Health) in Hinsdale, devoting more than 35 years as a cook and supervisor.
   An accomplished piano player, Bob wrote and produced an original album, winning a Wisconsin state competition, and was selected to audition for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He also loved the beach, cats, and cooking and baking for his family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Dean, Marilyn and Larry.
   He is survived by his wife, Janice, nee Wilson; his former spouse, Mildred Dennis-Montez; his children, Shelly (Jeff) Urbano, Ken Dennis and Holly (Mike) Rau; his grandchildren, Erynn Besser, Vincent Lettiere, Laheila Dennis and Finley Rau; his sisters, Darlene Palek and Sally Palek; and many other relatives and loved ones.
   Memorials may be made to Monroe Street Arts Center at

John P. Gahagan
John “Jay” P. Gahagan passed away Sept. 30, 2018, with his family by his side.
   Jay, 73, was the resident manager at Colonial Gardens apartments in Hinsdale. He will be remembered for the stories he told, the help, advice and support he generously gave to countless people, and his gregarious personality.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, nee Dickert.
   He is survived by his children, Laura (Christian) and Susan (Robert); his granddaughter, Lillian; his fiancée, Maria Mapula; and his friend, Bill W. and a host of long-time friends. 
   Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 11, at Adolf Funeral Home 7000 S. Madison St., Willowbrook, and will include a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
   Interment is private at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.

Margaret Scharf
Margaret Scharf of Westchester, a former resident of Hinsdale, died Oct. 6, 2018, in Maywood.
   Margaret, 74, was born in 1943 in Coralville, Iowa.
   Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis A. Scharf.
   She is survived by her children, Anna O’Connell and David Scharf; and her grandson, Gavin O’Connell.
   Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 South Grant St., Hinsdale.
   A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1550 Haase Ave., Westchester.
