OBITUARIES:  (published Nov. 16, 2017)

Richard John Devine
Richard John Devine, 74, formerly of Clarendon Hills, died Nov. 10, 2017, at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Manteno.
   He was born in 1943 in Chicago and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.
   A world-class dad, husband, grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, Marine and coach, Rick was always one to give the shirt off his back and was selfless in his love and passion for his family, the community, the South Side, teaching inner city youth and the Marine Corps.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Arlene, nee Vensky, Devine; his son, James Patrick Devine; and his brother, Jimmy Devine.
   He is survived by his wife, Patricia Devine, nee Foley; his sons, Daniel Morgan (Kathleen) and Brendan John (Anna); his grandchildren, Quinn, Ronan, Seamus, Delaney, Foley and Danney Maeve Devine; his siblings, Tom, Lori (Tom) Stepanek and John; and his sisters-in-law, Alice and Norine Foley and Mary Ann (the late Robert) Walsh.
   Visitation is from 4 to 7 today, Nov. 16, at from Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 S. Grant St. Hinsdale.
   Friends and family will meet at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, before proceeding to Notre Dame Church, 64 Norfolk Ave., Clarendon Hills, for a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass.
   Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made online to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at or a charity of choice.

Mary Ellen Eklund
Mary Ellen Eklund, nee Annis, 84, of Oak Brook died Nov. 12, 2017, at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
   She was born in 1933 in Chicago.
   Mary Ellen received a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University and a master’s degree from Chicago State University. A former high school teacher and volunteer worker, she enjoyed bridge and was a national master.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard H. Eklund.
   She is survived by her children, Dr. Heidi (Daren Baker) Eklund of Hinsdale and Dr. John (Dr. Jennifer) Eklund; her grandchildren, Addison Kate, Ellery Morgan and Liam Owen Eklund, Jordan Emily and Carson Catherine Baker.
   An interment service was held Nov. 14 at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook.
   Sullivan Funeral Home in Hinsdale handled the arrangements.

Lars Okmark
Lars Okmark, 76, a 54-year resident of Oak Brook, died Sept. 10, 2017, at Adventist Medical Center in La Grange due to complications from pneumonia.
   He was born in 1941 in Karlskrona, Sweden, and came to this country in 1956.
   He was a graduate of Lyons Township High School and owned Okmark Decorating, a painting and decorating company, for 40 years.
   He was an accomplished downhill skier and ski instructor for the Hinsdale Trolls Ski Club for 20 years.
   He was active in his community, serving as a volunteer firefighter for the Oak Brook Fire Department and on the Oak Brook Historical Society board.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, Nils and Margit Okmark; and his sister, Ingalill.
   He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosemarie; his daughter, Ann Marie (David) Callahan; his grandchildren, Alyson Cassidy and Brett Lars Callahan; his brother, Gunnar; his sister, Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews.
   A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Christ Church of Oak Brook, 501 Oak Brook Road.
   Interment will be private.

Roy James Schuetz
Roy James Schuetz, 59, a former Hinsdale resident, passed away unexpectedly Nov. 5, 2017, in Utah.
   Born in 1958 in Chicago, Roy was the son of the late Charles and Katherine Keenan Schuetz.
   He was raised in Hinsdale, attended Monroe School and Hinsdale Junior High School and graduated from Hinsdale Central High School in 1976.
   Roy was a construction manager in Chicago and most recently in Utah. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
   He was preceded in death by his siblings, Carl (Joyce) and Ruth.
   He is survived by his children, Charles “Chad,” Brett and Kurt Schuetz; his former wife, Peggy Schuetz; his companion, Merritt May; his sisters, Christine (Randy) Graves and Rachel (Robert) Krohn of Hinsdale; and nine nieces and nephews.
   A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Christ Lutheran Church of Clarendon Hills, 60 55th St.
   Family interment will be held at Bronswood Cemetery. Memorials may be made online to the Wounded Warrior Project at
