OBITUARIES:  (published Nov. 23, 2017)

John Devin Cassin
John Devin Cassin, 33, died Nov. 13, 2017.
   After residing with his parents in Hinsdale, Devin joined the Misericordia family in 2010. He enjoyed the vibrant life offered on campus and the companionship of housemates and staff. The family is especially grateful for the considerate and loving attention of all the Misericordia staff.    Devin was a blessing to his family, offering incredible appreciation for every small accomplishment otherwise taken for granted.
   Devin is survived by his parents, Christopher and Cathy Cassin; his brothers, Collin, Rory and Ryan; his grandmother, Marie Lynch Cassin; and his cousins and uncles and aunts, Stephen and Kim Cassin, Beth Cassin and Ellen and Jim Duncan.
   A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, in the chapel at Misericordia, located at 6300 N. Ridge, Chicago.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Misericordia Heart of Mercy online at
   Smith-Corcoran Funeral Homes handled the arrangements.

Marilu Virginia Hancock
Marilu Virginia Hancock, nee Heffernan, 84, of Hinsdale died on Nov. 18, 2017 at Edward Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
   She was born in 1933 in Chicago and graduated from Siena High School on the city’s west side.
   Marilu was a incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her time spent with family and friends at her home in Lake Geneva, Wis., provided everlasting joy and memories. Marilu took up painting at the mid-point of her life and became an accomplished watercolor artist.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard J. Hancock
   She is survived by her children Bernie, Tom, Bill (Katy) and Mark (Roberta) Hancock; her grandchildren, Mallory (Matt) Johnson, Michael Hancock, Mary Kate (Ethan) Hom, Patrick, Joseph, Olivia, Owen and Arthur Hancock; and her great-granddaughter, Emma Johnson.
   Visitation is at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at St. Isaac Jogues Parish, 306 W. Fourth St., Hinsdale.
   A funeral mass will follow at the church at 10 a.m.
   Interment is private.

David Roy Miller
David Roy Miller, 76, of Hinsdale died Nov. 14, 2017, after a long illness.
   David was born in 1941 in Brookfield to Henry and Gladys Miller. He received a bachelor’s degree in history from Elmhurst College and became a successful pension actuary. In 1978,    David married Janet and they purchased their first and only home in Hinsdale. He was a life member of the NRA. After Janet retired in 2001, they enjoyed trips together to Florida to visit family and tour historic sites in the south, volunteered at the Hinsdale Historical Society and went golfing in Door County.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gladys Miller.
   He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janet Miller, nee Flotow; his cousins cousin of Joan (Doug) McClain, Karen Gribble, Shayne (George) Lindsay, and Ruth (Neil) Kinney; and his brothers-in-law, Mark (Linda) Flotow and Phillip Flotow.
   Internment was private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Evelyn Ryther Savage
Evelyn Ryther Savage, 100, formerly of Eden, N.Y., died peacefully in her daughter’s Hinsdale home on Nov. 7, 2017.
   Evelyn was born in 1917 to Catherine, nee Coleman, and Warren Ryther.
   A 1935 graduate of Eden High School, Evelyn was a member of the high school band and the girls basketball team, of which she often fondly spoke, and served as junior class president and senior class secretary.
   She married W. Kenneth Savage of Buffalo in her family home on Sept. 16, 1944.
   As an active volunteer, Evelyn was involved with the Eden Historical Society, the Eden United Methodist Church, Eden AFS, the Eden election board, the town food pantry and the American Red Cross for more than 35 years.
   Evelyn was an avid gardener and bird enthusiast, taking great pleasure in maintaining her Eden property with her husband, Ken.
   Above all else was Evelyn’s love for family.
   She was preceded in death by her brothers, David, Coleman and Warren; and her sister, Marjorie.
   She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Marion) Roglich; her grandchildren, Evan and Madeleine; and her nephews and nieces.
   A memorial service will be held at the Eden United Methodist Church at a later date.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Eden United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2820 E. Church St., Eden, NY 14057 or the Eden Historical Society, PO Box 2, Eden, NY 14057.

Jane Clarke Whittington
Jane Clarke Whittington, 85, a longtime resident of Hinsdale and Indian Head Park, passed away peacefully Nov. 15, 2017, at Amita Medical Center in Hinsdale.
   She was born in 1932 in Chicago to Carlin and Thelma Corbett. She attended Wilson City Junior College in Chicago and later worked at City National Bank & Trust Co. as a legal secretary in the trust department and then as the office manager at Community Presbyterian Church in Clarendon Hills.
   A woman of faith, Jane was an active participant in the life of Community Presbyterian for nearly 60 years, serving as a church elder, singing in the choir and participating in United Presbyterian Women. She was also active in the community, serving as president of the Golfview Hills Women’s Club, as secretary of the District 60 PTO Board, and a board member of District 181.
   She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman F. Clarke.
   She is survived by her husband, Wesley Whittington; her son, Robert W. Clarke; her grandchildren, Lauren Clarke (Ryan) Maus, Peter Thomas Clarke and Julia Whitney Clarke; and her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ryan Maus.
   A memorial service was held Nov. 18 at Community Presbyterian Church in Clarendon Hills.
   Interment was private at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook.
