  • D86 board officer elections illustrate lack of collaboration

    Updated Apr 20, 2022

This past year it has been disheartening to see the District 86 BOE led by a board president who showed a lack of integrity to her campaign promises and abused her position to silence board member dialogue. What was even more disappointing was the silence from the other three board members that form the majority, when agenda items were voted off or voted on by a show of hands without full discussion. It seemed like they had reached consensus outside of open session. Ms. Walker clearly didn’t show respect for her position o...

Research shows the powerful impact implicit bias has on students’ ability to learn, she said. It can affect special education placements, disciplinary referrals, teacher mindsets and beliefs, tracking and the dominant discourse. “What you will see is...

The two main islands were Upper Caisse and Lower Caisse, and the islands’ leader was General Pica. Phones rang all day with readers seeking more information about this idyllic holiday spot. Only a few noticed that everything about the islands was named after printer’s ter...

Xitlali Garcia was hunched over a light table Monday morning, painstakingly peeling off pieces of a transfer sheet that later would be pressed onto a St. Patrick's Day T-shirt. Garcia doesn't mind the attention to detail required. She enjoys working for Threads, a micro business that is part of the new District 86 Transition Center. She is one of about 80 to 90 Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South graduates who attend the new center, which is tucked into an office building on...

  • Former board president calls for superintendent's removal

    Updated Feb 23, 2022

I am a former board member (and president) of school District 86. I recently posted a petition on www.Change.org/StopPrentiss, which gathered over 800 signatures in a few days. It calls for the removal of Superintendent Prentiss because of board policies I believe she has failed to uphold and because she has broken the trust of our community. By contract, Superintendent Prentiss must abide by policies approved by the elected members of the BOE; however, she has failed to uphold this obligation. Policy 3:40 states:...
