Hinsdale eateries are once again inviting diners to stop in and try one of their specials or an old favorite during Hinsdale Restaurant Week, which begins tomorrow, April 12, and continues through Saturday, April 20. "We think it's a great opportunity for the village and the EDC to remind our residents and people outside of Hinsdale that we've got great options for dining here for breakfast, lunch and dinner," said Jill Sunderson, chair of the Hinsdale Economic Development...
Sales tax revenue in Hinsdale is up and vacant storefronts are relatively low, according to the village’s latest economic development report. At yesterday’s quarterly economic development commission meeting, commissioners learned that last year’s third quarter sales tax receipts totaled $1.55 million, a nearly $3,000 increase from the same period in 2022. Assistant Village Manager Andrianna Peterson said the numbers continue a positive trend. “Our sales tax is still doing very well,” Peterson said, pointing out the leading c...
Mike Murrill feels connected to Hinsdale - and to Amita Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale - in a unique way. Murrill, who became president and CEO of the hospital in May, was born in its labor and delivery unit. His dad worked there as an accountant, and his uncle is a former hospital HR director. Even Murrill's grandfather was affiliated with health centers, running a mission hospital. "Hearing stories of his and his experiences inspired me," said Murrill, who also is...
Carrie Thangamani, owner of CHT Orthodontics, has lived and worked in Hinsdale since 2011. (That spring she bought the practice in March, moved here in April and had her first child in May.) She's also a friend of Hinsdale Economic Development Commission Chair Jill Sunderson, who recently invited her to join the group. "I think me being a business owner in town, personally and professionally, I think it was a natural fit for her," Thangamani said. The mom of two, 7-year-old...
The Hinsdale Village Board took steps to revitalize the village’s economic development commission earlier this month. Trustees appointed four new commissioners and agreed on changes designed to improve the meeting schedule and boost membership. “I’m super excited to have new life in the EDC,” said Jill Sunderson, a three-year EDC member who is taking over as chairman of the commission. “The new commissioners that are on it have a really good balance of marketing and business backgrounds, and many of them are local business...
Trustees are throwing the Hinsdale Economic Development Commission a lifeline. The village board Tuesday is expected to approve changes designed to boost the commission’s membership, making it easier to find members and setting a more convenient time for them to meet. Eight meetings already have been canceled this year due to lack of a quorum — and it’s only September. Multiple meetings have been canceled each year since 2015 for the same reason. When trustees discussed the proposed changes last week, they questioned wheth...
With only two members currently serving on the village’s economic development commission, Hinsdale trustees wonder whether the group has outlived its purpose. “There have been challenges with both recruiting members to the commission and getting a quorum and meeting regularly,” Trustee Jerry Hughes, chairman of administration and community affairs, told his fellow village board members Tuesday. The EDC is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month. Five...
