Over the past year we’ve published a series of stories on a venerable Hinsdale organization dedicated to serving and advocating for the nation’s veterans, American Legion Post 250. The post is among the oldest in the country, formed shortly after the American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congr...

"Ever since I got to Hinsdale Central, all we've done is won down in Bloomington," senior Jack Bartuch said. "That was obviously the goal. It was a different year, a different team. I would say it was a little more of a stretch this year." Coach Jess Krueger agreed. "Yearlong we wanted to get to the...

The band is getting ready for Friday night's last regular home game of the season against Lyons Township High School. "It's going to be cold on Friday, too, so it's just getting us ready," said Matt Kurinsky, who directs the band with Matt Goeke. Ken Knutson|Updated Oct 23, 2019

The lighting at the 10-month-old Hinsdale Middle School is state of the art — and controlled from out of state. “There’s a guy in Texas who’s controlling it. It’s pretty wild,” remarked Mike Duggan, director of facilities for Community Consolidated Elementary District 181. “He adjusts them so they go off at a certain time or get cut to 50 percent.” The LED lights are motion-sensored, so unoccupied rooms go dark. Oh, and they can detect sunlight, for more budget-saving b...

  • Peer buddies comfort more than freshmen

    Cedra Jazayerli|Updated Oct 18, 2019

They say that time flies. They say that these four years will go by in a flash. But I remember my first day of freshman year. It was a scorching hot day in August. A short-sleeved gray dress was not the best choice to hide those embarrassing sweat stains. Being crammed in a humid, sweaty gym for the first all-school assembly did not mix well with the anxiety of being at the bottom of the totem pole at a new school. Rumors of crazy science teachers, intense work loads and...

  • Freshmen making varsity waves

    Ken Knutson|Updated Oct 16, 2019

On Friday, the Hinsdale Central varsity girls swim team vanquished conference rival Lyons Township by an impressive margin of 108-78. Even more notable is the fact that a primary source of those points was the team's contingent of first-year phenoms. Kendall Pickering won the 100-yard backstroke and took second in the 200-yard individual medley. Caroline Kramer captured top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished third in the 200-yard IM. Kit Schneider bested her...
