For the sixth straight season, Hinsdale Central girls lacrosse finished among the state's elite. A 10-7 win over Lake Forest Saturday in the third-place game on Central's Dickinson Field avenged a 7-9 loss to the Scouts back on March 14, the first game of the season. It also helped salve the disappointment from the Devils' Friday night defeat to eventual state champ Loyola Academy in a hard-fought contest. "We definitely showed up in (the Lake Forest) game, and felt like we...

I was definitely warned about junior year. I remember being in seventh grade and thinking about high school as this huge, foreboding experience that I would never get through. I would sit in my class, glad to be only in middle school, where the stakes felt low. People talked about high school, and when I got to high school, they still talked about high school. Maybe the fantasies of "High School Musical" rubbed off on everyone? Except for the part where everyone breaks into...
John Naisbitt began his tenure as Hinsdale Central's varsity boys tennis coach in 2010, hoping to lead the team to its fourth straight championship. Instead the team came in second. "I learned a great deal about details and making sure everything was in line and you can't take anything for granted," he said. In 2011, the team came in fifth. "Then 2012 came along. Martin Joyce, Eddie Grabill. We won four straight," he said. "We did five more in the next eight years." Naisbitt...
Aidan Hernandez Hinsdale How was finishing your Central tennis career with a state title? It feels good. A team title is really great, and especially since it was (head coach John) Naisbitt's last year and a great way to send him off. What do you remember about freshman season? It was a very new experience for me. We had a shortened season because of COVID. I was playing football, too, and football was moved to spring so the two seasons overlapped and it was pretty chaotic. Wh...

In Flanders Fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky, The larks, still bravely singing, fly, Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not...

What does commencement mean to you? Hinsdale Central student body President Will Kusak will perform his final duty in that role - and as a Red Devil - serving as an emcee of tonight's commencement ceremony. The roughly 600-strong class of 2024 had no in-person eighth-grade graduation due to COVID, and embarked on its high school journey split in halves to promote social distancing on campus. "We were labeled as an 'A day' kid or a 'B day' kid, and that just caused such a stir...
Billy "Bun" Robertson, 66, of Hinsdale passed away May 10, 2024, at his home. He was born in Chicago in 1957. Those who lived in Hinsdale in the 1960s to 1980s probably knew Billy "Bun" in some way. Growing up, from the age of 2 on, across from Burns Field was such a gift to him. It allowed him to run across the street every day after school and play football, ice hockey or baseball. He helped start the Burns Field Turkey Bowl, which he participated in for more than 40 years....
