Suzanne L. Zuver, nee Fletcher, 82, died Oct. 15, 2023. Susie was born in Detroit, Mich., to Stanley and Mary, nee Heininger, Fletcher. She moved to Hinsdale with her family when her father began working with Harris Bank. One in eight teenagers in the U.S. used an illicit substance in the last year. Sixty-two percent of high school seniors have abused alcohol and 50 percent of teens have misused a drug at least once, according to the National Center For Drug Abuse Statistics. Overdose deaths among 15- to 24-year-olds more than tripled from 1999 to 2017, climbing from 1,240 to 4,777. Statistics specific to Illinois are no more comforting. The village’s 2023 leaf pickup program, designed to keep streets cleaner and safer and to help keep leaves out of sewers and storm drains, will begin the week of Oct. 30. The program includes free, unlimited, weekly curbside collection of leaves in kraft paper yard waste bags. Plastic bags will not be picked up. Damar Hamlin and Bronny James are lucky. They were in the right place at the right time when they suffered their sudden cardiac events. Many are not so lucky, like our family friend Michael Brindley. Michael attended Hinsdale Central. He was known for his big heart and big hugs. Michael loved all sports. He dreamt of becoming a sports journalist.
