The family of Nicole Hladik, a 25-year-old Hinsdale firefighter/paramedic candidate who took her own life in July 2020, has voluntary dismissed a discrimination lawsuit it filed against the village and Lt. Tom McCarthy of the Hinsdale Fire Department, the village announced Monday. One in eight teenagers in the U.S. used an illicit substance in the last year. Sixty-two percent of high school seniors have abused alcohol and 50 percent of teens have misused a drug at least once, according to the National Center For Drug Abuse Statistics. The village’s 2023 leaf pickup program, designed to keep streets cleaner and safer and to help keep leaves out of sewers and storm drains, will begin the week of Oct. 30. Damar Hamlin and Bronny James are lucky. They were in the right place at the right time when they suffered their sudden cardiac events. Many are not so lucky, like our family friend Michael Brindley. Michael attended Hinsdale Central. He was known for his big heart and big hugs. Michael loved all sports. He dreamt of becoming a sports journalist.
