    Pictures from the past - The building at 101 S. Washington St., which is now occupied by Marcus, started out as the Hinsdale State Bank. Designed by Hinsdale architect William Barfield, it was built in 1927. In the 1960s the building was purchased by Pat Davis, the mother of Sally Parsons, who provided this photo.     Even though the Clarendon Hills Village Board continued a public hearing on the proposed 55th Street TIF until September, trustees allowed residents who attended the meeting to speak for about an hour during the public comment portion of the agenda.     The Hinsdale Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in the 900 block of South Elm Street Wednesday, Aug. 14. The home's occupants were outside, having been alerted by smoke detectors, when the fire department arrived on the scene. Smoke was showing from a garage window, and firefighters quickly gained access to the garage and put out the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.     The most significant improvement project at Hinsdale Central High School over the summer, according to Principal Bill Walsh, didn't require any heavy equipment. "We renumbered all the rooms," Walsh revealed on a recent campus tour shortly before students returned.     Citing many unanswered questions, Community Consolidated Elementary District 181 Board members officially registered their opposition Monday to a proposed tax increment financing district in Clarendon Hills. The joint review board, comprised of a member of each affected taxing body and one member of the public, followed up with its own vote to recommend rejection of the TIF Wednesday afternoon.     Practice for the Hinsdale Central girls swim and dive team didn’t start out the way athletes or their coaches hoped on Monday. Instead of meeting at the school’s Don Watson Aquatic Center, they were at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont.     The impasse remains between Hinsdale Humane Society and the village over the terms for taking in stray dogs, but officials on both sides hope a deal can be reached.
