SPRINGFIELD — Gov. JB Pritzker on Monday announced the launch of Illinois’ contact tracing program and defended an emergency rule filed Friday to allow for misdemeanor charges against businesses defying his stay-at-home order. The contact-tracing effort for COVID-19 — one that is required to move the state along the governor’s “Restore Illinois” reopening plan — will begin in two pilot counties. Pritzker said contact tracing, which was used early on in the state’s coronavirus outbreak when the number of cases was manageably...

Pritzker said Illinois now has 251 sites that offer free testing, including seven drive-through locations in Markham, Bloomington, Harwood Heights, Rockford, Aurora, Waukegan and East St. Louis. SPRINGFIELD — Gov. JB Pritzker said Monday that three of the state’s four regions are on pace to enter the next phase of reopening the state’s economy by the end of May, but he pushed back against suggestions that the state should begin to reopen earlier. “If we were to lift all of our mitigations entirely at the end of the month, modeling shows that there would be a new surge of COVID-19 and a higher R-naught in each of the four regions, even in the least hard-hit regions of our state,” Pritzker said during his daily COVID-1...

JB Pritzker said Thursday the Illinois Department of Employment Security is paying benefits to unemployed Illinoisans “in a timely manner” after a number of improvements were made to the oft-maligned process. Three-quarters of people filing claims received their first benefits within two weeks of applying, he added. Personnel worked daily to “expand our systems and capacity” in order to address concerns from residents who could not access the online forms or reach a call center representative, the gover...
SPRINGFIELD – As statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations remain stable, state leaders say not much has changed to warrant an altered response to the pandemic. “The virus hasn’t gone away. It is still out there, and nothing that we’re doing now is changing that fact,” Gov. JB Pritzker said during his daily COVID-19 briefing Wednesday in Chicago. “What we have changed, what has made things better, what has reduced the number of potential infections and the number of people going into the hospital and dying, is the fact that people...
