After the Madison School Dash & Bash 3K race, families enjoyed almost a day's worth of activities. With a Friday night last-second victory at the football game and a cool, rain-free Saturday morning parade, Hinsdale Central celebrated homecoming weekend in style. Jake Trainer, Emerson Eck and Evan Phillips, Hinsdale Central varsity basketball players, held a one-day basketball/swim camp in July to help first- through eighth-graders sharpen their playing skills. Mother Nature provided one more test to prove their "grit" as members of the Hinsdale Central Class of 2022 had to have their graduation ceremony indoors because of threatening weather last Thursday night. And while it was warm in the gym, it didn't stop the pomp and circumstance as the 667 members of the class received their diplomas. Many parents were able to spot their graduates as they entered. Chopped champion Grace Goudie visited the Hinsdale Public Library earlier this month to cook and chat about her experiences from waiting tables in Hinsdale to winning the first round of "Chopped Casino Royale." The Madison School Kids Care Club celebrated Earth Day by hosting a school wide outdoor clean-up last month. On Friday, a month to the day after the Windhover was removed from its home along Washington Street and sent off for a makeover, it returned to its new home sporting its new look. The new site along Third Street will have benches as well as landscaping and lighting to better display the Smithsonian piece of art. Minutes before students were about to gather for prom, sirens signaling a tornado warning went off, forcing organizers into the hallways at Hinsdale Central. With the Stuff the Squad event taking place across District 181 last week, members of the Hinsdale Middle School Kindness Club decided to leverage the opportunity and add the ever popular YouTube "Domino Effect" to help increase donations. The Clarendon Hills Middle School's sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade bands participated in the Illinois Grade School Music Association Festival competition March 19 at CHMS. All three bands earned Division 1 ratings, the highest rating in the competition. The sixth-grade band earned a rare three perfect scores from the three judges. Hinsdale Central students Bridget Kallas and Niko Rhodes helped to organize a fundraiser Sunday morning to benefit the Ukranian Red Cross. The run/walk was held on Dickinson Field. The event raised more than $12,500, but the exact count wasn't known as of press time, as additional funds are being processed.
