The Hinsdale Central boys and girls cross country teams each added hardware to their trophy cases last weekend with second- and third-place finishes, respectively, at the IHSA state final meet in Peoria on Saturday. Both squads took advantage of the clear skies and unseasonably mild temperatures to register some of the best times of the season in the 3-mile race. JV SILVER WINNING STREAK ENDS The Falcon JV Silver squad’s eight-game winning streak came to an end Sunday at Berens Park in Elmhurst. Hoping to avenge their week one — and only — loss, the Falcons came up just short, losing a tightly contested battle 7-6 to the Elmhurst Eagles. The kids from Hinsdale held off the speedy Elmhurst offense on the opening drive. The Falcons would take over on downs in their own territory and scored a few plays later on a long third down touchdown run by quarterback Owen Sunderson. A penal...

9U season ends with hard-fought game The 2021 9U Falcon season came to an unsatisfying conclusion on Saturday. It was a hard-fought game by both teams, but the Falcons fell 6-0 to the Bartlett Raiders. After a second quarter touchdown pass by the Raiders, the Falcon defense regained its footing. The defense had two interceptions and a fumble recovery, limiting Bartlett the rest of the afternoon. However, the offense was stuck in second gear all day. The Falcons had two drives stall in the red zone, and a last-ditch effort...

9U ALMOST STAGES COMEBACK First play, every play, all day. This has been the mantra for the 9U Falcons all year. However this week vs the Wheaton Rams, the Falcons didn’t follow through. The Rams scored on an outside run on the first play to take an early 7-0 lead. Rather than hang their heads, the Falcons got back to work. They went on a long drive following the blocking of Josh Castro, Bennett Zeikus, Grady Wood and strong runs by Gavin Schuler. A would be touchdown was ruled out of bounds and the drive stalled.
