The amount of time and energy Falcon Football's Jay Novatney devoted during his 10 years of leading the program easily could be underestimated, friend and fellow board member Kay Sharples said. "Watching Jay is kind of like seeing the top of an iceberg," she said. "You go to a game and you see the players and cheerleaders and scorekeepers and officials and you think you've seen it all. People have not idea what is going on under the surface of water." Novatney joined the board...

9U ALMOST STAGES COMEBACK First play, every play, all day. This has been the mantra for the 9U Falcons all year. However this week vs the Wheaton Rams, the Falcons didn’t follow through. The Rams scored on an outside run on the first play to take an early 7-0 lead. Rather than hang their heads, the Falcons got back to work. They went on a long drive following the blocking of Josh Castro, Bennett Zeikus, Grady Wood and strong runs by Gavin Schuler. A would be touchdown was ruled out of bounds and the drive stalled. The d...

The first year junior Tessa Barber swam at Hinsdale Central High School, she wasn't sure how to address her coach. After all, he was her dad. "My freshman year, I used to avoid calling anything," she said. "I used to raise my hand in the pool my freshmen year. We call him 'Pop' at home, so I just started calling him that at practice." Other than that glitch, Tessa and her sister, Vija, generally appreciate the opportunity to have their dad, Bob, at practice and their coach at...
