Jacquelyn Eleanor Jefferson, nee Fishbaugh, a 62-year Hinsdale resident, passed away peacefully Dec. 1, 2019. She was 88.
Jackie was born in 1930 and raised on a farm in Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1948. She spent two years at the University of Iowa, before transferring to the University of Florida to study art and graphic design.
After graduating college, she moved to Chicago and worked as a copywriter for the Montgomery Ward catalog and at the Campbell Mithun advertising agency. She also met Chad Jefferson, and they married in February 1954.
Jackie and Chad settled in Hinsdale where they raised four children. She was very active in the community, serving as executive secretary of the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce for 15 years. Jackie was also a devoted member of the Hinsdale Historical Society, contributing a weekly column on local history to The Hinsdale Doings newspaper for many years.
For years, she was the Monroe School “picture lady,” conducting a program of her own creation in which she brought well-known works of art to the classroom. She was also active in her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. In later years, she gave a much-loved annual presentation to the Hinsdale Middle School seventh-graders about her experiences on the home front during the World War II.
She found plenty to keep her busy at King Bruwaert House after the couple moved there in 2016.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Chad; her four children, Jill (Kevin) Fermanich, Scott (Kaddy) Jefferson, Katie (Gary) Gross and Ted (Debbie) Jefferson; her brother, Richard Fishbaugh; and seven grandchildren.
Services and interment are private.
Sullivan Funeral Home of Hinsdale handled the arrangements.
