Seniors named SCHOLARS

Four seniors from Hinsdale Central High School have been named candidates for the 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

They are Alyssa Lee, Daniel Leung, Nicholas Lynch and Thomas Mercurio.

The program was established in 1964. Each year, up to 161 students are named Presidential Scholars, which is considered one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.

The district anticipates this year’s class of scholars will be named in May.

PILLARS annual BALL A SUCCESS

The 2020 Ball raised $242,000 for Pillars Community Health.

More than 300 residents attended the annual gala Feb. 1 at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. Hinsdale’s Judy Hsu served as emcee.

The evening included dinner, a live band, casino-style gaming and a live auction.

Pillars offers medical, dental, mental health and substance use disorder services along with and domestic and sexual violence services to residents of the western suburbs.

DANCE MARATHON RAISES $2.8 MILLION

The University of Iowa’s student-led Dance Marathon raised more than $2.8 million for the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital in its 26th year. Dance Marathon, now in its 26th year, is the UI’s largest student organization. It has raised more than $30 million since its first event in 1995.

Hinsdale students who participated are Mina Rao, Christina Aucoin, John Hoffman, Trevor Hamilton, Jack Brubaker and Griffin Doney.
