Ruth Barbara Long, née Dillon, 94, of Oak Brook died peacefully on April 15, 2020.
Ruth was born in 1926 in Oak Park to John Joseph Dillon and Myrtle Jane Gudgeon.
Ruth spent 30 years in Hillsboro Beach, Fla., before returning home to Illinois in 2017.
Ruth was a devoted Catholic and lifelong volunteer at her churches in Illinois and Florida. She enjoyed gardening, crafts and music. She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile and loving spirit.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John Joseph Long Sr .; and her siblings, William Dillon, Ellen Kreml, Rita Hoffmann and Richard Dillon.
Ruth is survived by her six children, John (Colleen) Long Jr., James (Kathleen) Long Sr., Thomas (Kyra) Long, Robert Long, Susan Kolb and Julie (Beau) Jones; her grandchildren, Thomas, Michael, Patrick, Meghan, Kristin, James Jr., Jennifer, Katherine, Christopher, Samantha, John, Ashley, Robert, Kristopher and Alexander; her 14 great grandchildren; and many more relatives and loved ones.
With the current regulations on public gatherings, the family held a private funeral service for immediate family members at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
