COVID-19 cases double in Hinsdale this week

A total of 126 Hinsdale residents have confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The DuPage County Health Department reported 117 confirmed cases and the Cook County Health Department reported nine confirmed cases in Hinsdale as of May 5.

A week ago Hinsdale had 65 confirmed cases, with 2,739 confirmed cases across DuPage County, including 138 deaths.

Ninety-seven of Hinsdale’s cases and six of the deaths are associated with ManorCare, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. The worst outbreak at a long-term care facility in the county previously had been at Chateau Center Nursing and Rehabilitation in Willowbrook, with 58 cases and 11 deaths, according to IDPH.

Amita Hinsdale Hospital is caring for 28 COVID-19 patients this week, a spokeswoman said.

A total of 638 cases in DuPage, including 138 deaths, are related to 59 other long-term care facilities in the county.

Seventy-nine cases are attributed to 31 outbreaks in other congregate settings and large gatherings.

DuPage County has a total of 3,922 confirmed cases, including 206 deaths.
