Eugene "Gene" Urban, a 57-year resident of Fullersburg, passed away May 10, 2020. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was always ready to share his extensive knowledge and interests.
Gene, 83, grew up in Chicago, graduated from Northwestern University and earned his MBA and CPA from the University of Chicago.
He was an active member in his community and gladly volunteered his accounting knowledge to several Hinsdale organizations, serving on the board of Washington Square Retirement Community (predecessor of EVE).
He had no limit for interests and hobbies, one of which included being a member of the Porsche Club of America, excelling in road rallies across the midwest.
Music was also a lifelong joy, which led him to be in the Union Church choir, several Community House Hinsdale Revues and a longtime member of the Jolly Boys men's choir.
Most of all he loved the open water, and with this love of the water he took to sailing. He participated in the Mackinac Race and numerous sailing trips around the world from Lake Michigan to the Caribbean and the Mediterranean seas. In addition to sailing, he enjoyed his many years volunteering at the Shedd Aquarium.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Andréa Urban. He is survived by his wife, Janet; his son, William (Sheryl); his grandchildren, Sasha and Daria; his brother, Ray; and many nieces and nephews.
