Robert E. Fry, 76, of Western Springs, died Dec. 2, 2020.
He was born in 1944 to Edward and Eileen Fry
Bob was a hard worker his entire life, joining the Marine Corp Reserves at a young age, then mastering the trade of iron working. In true Bob fashion, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own floor care business. He then joined his good friend, Chris Carlson, working at Motorcycle Specialists for 11 years. Once the shop closed, Bob went on to be the head mechanic at Glen Oak Country Club, where he worked for 26 years until retirement.
Some of Bob's favorite past times included visiting the Illinois Railroad Museum, working on motorcycles and trains or spending a day out on the water. He loved racing flat track and riding his motorcycle across the country. He was also a member of Chicago Norton Owners Club, BMW Owners Association, Train Collectors Association, and a veteran member of the American Motorcyclist Association.
Shortly after retirement, Bob devoted his time to care for his wife, Susan, throughout her battle with Alzheimer's. Later in life, Bob would also face the same devastating disease.
Bob will always be remembered for his sense of humor, gentle demeanor and willingness to help others. Some of his proudest moments were spent watching his daughters, Jordan and Kaylan, grow into the women they are today.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan G. Fry, nee Smith.
He is survived by his daughters, Jordan Fry Kavanaugh and Kaylan Fry; his sister, Kathy (Chip) Bell; and his nephews, Michael (Janie) Bell and Jeffrey (Melissa) Bell.
A private family visitation and service will be held Wednesday, Dec. at Sullivan Funeral Home in Hinsdale, with a livestream at 6 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be announced this summer when restrictions have been lifted.
