Phyllis H. Hogrefe, nee Hardy, 97, of Hinsdale, passed away Jan. 13, 2021, after a four-month battle with health issues.
Phyllis was born in Willoughby, Ohio, in 1923 to William J. and Ruth K. Hardy. She and her family (five siblings) relocated from New York to Hinsdale in 1940. She spent her senior year at Hinsdale Township High School, graduating with the Class of 1941.
She spent many years working for her father at the Chicago Stockyards.
She married Louie H. Hogrefe in 1946 and had one daughter, Susan C. Hogrefe, in 1954. She and Louie were married for 46 years before he passed away at age 73 in 1994.
Phyllis was an avid bowler for 35 years, a reader and bridge player and devout choir member. She volunteered for her church and many organizations, such as Meals on Wheels.
She was fortunate to be able to witness the birth of her three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with whom she made many wonderful memories.
Phyllis will be remembered for her quick wit, sharp mind, her love of family, God and her church, playing cards, the Chicago Bulls and watching professional golf.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Louie H. Hogrefe; her sisters, Mary Harriger, Carol Park and Jean Schmidt; her brother, William J. Hardy Jr .; and her son-in-law, Thomas J. Sorce.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan C. Sorce of Hinsdale; her sister, Joan Moseley; her grandchildren, Thomas J.(Sara) Sorce Jr., Jason M. (Rebecca) Sorce, Cortney S. (Bryant) Gaynes; her great-grandchildren, Parker, Paige, Dempsey, J.T., Kaycee and Palmer; and many nieces and nephews.
No arrangements have been made at this time due to current circumstances. A private service will take place in the late spring or summer.
