The upcoming election on April 6 covers municipal positions including our school, library and village boards. These are probably on your radar. But the election also includes board and key staff of Downers Grove Township, the unit of local government that you probably don’t know much about (it’s the largest of the nine townships in DuPage County).
Most of Hinsdale (the portion west of County Line Road) is in Downers Grove Township, and the township also includes adjacent suburbs to the west and south. The township annual budget is approximately $5 million, largely derived from property taxes. There are four elected positions (supervisor, clerk, assessor and highway commissioner) plus four elected trustees. These elected positions are partisan.
I ask you to consider the Democratic candidates for these positions because they will bring a new perspective to these historically Republican-held positions. The Democratic slate will re-imagine Downers Grove Township government into one that is responsive to community needs, proactive and based on Democratic philosophy and ideals. The April municipal elections are typically low turnout, but they are very important as they are our first line of local government. Please check out the Democratic slate at https://www.newchoicefortownship.com and of course be sure to vote on or before April 6. — Laurie McMahon, Hinsdale
