Hinsdale firefighters responded to a house fire at 812 Phillippa St. after a 911 call came in to the DuPage Public Safety Communication Center at about 6:12 p.m. Friday. The resident had reported a fire in the house.
DuComm initiated a general alarm and the response was upgraded to a box alarm upon arrival. This included a full response from the Hinsdale Fire Department (Tower 84, Engine 84, Medic 84, Deputy Chief 84 and Assistant Chief 84) as well as additional fire companies from the Clarendon Hills, Western Springs, Oak Brook, Westmont, Downers Grove, LaGrange Park, La Grange and Brookfield fire departments and the Darien-Woodridge, Pleasantview and York Center fire protection districts.
Hinsdale companies were the first on scene and confirmed a fire in the attic with all occupants out of the building. The remaining fire companies arrived on scene and initiated a rapid fire attack and quickly extinguished a fire that was traveling through the attic. Fire companies then began the overhaul and ventilation process.
There was no damage to the two adjacent properties. There were no injuries as a result of this fire and estimated damages were about $100,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but appears to be accidental in nature.
