BettyLou F. Wargen of Bark River, Mich,, and a former village employee, passed away March 14, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Cornell, Mich.
BettyLou, 82, was born in Chicago in 1939, the daughter of Ervin and Betty (Straka) Suchomel. She attended Riverside Brookfield High School and graduated in 1956.
She married John Paul Wargen on February 15, 1958, in Brookfield. The couple recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. For many years, BettyLou worked as a daycare provider, and later was employed by the Village of Hinsdale to teach handicap swimming, downhill and cross-country skiing, and horseback riding.
Many summers were spent vacationing at the family’s cottage in the Upper Peninsula on Crooked Lake. BettyLou and John retired to the U.P., settling in Bark River. She loved her horses and was an avid horseback rider, riding up until last year. BettyLou enjoyed the outdoors during all seasons, especially skiing and ice-skating.
In addition to her parents, BettyLou was preceded in death by her younger sister, Janet Moushon.
She is survived by her husband, John Wargen; her daughters, Bonnie (Tom) Lemke, Vicki (Dennis) Green and Nancy (Jim) Reilly; and her three grandchildren, Jessica Green, William Reilly and Jamie Reilly.
Private family funeral services are being planned.
