Charles "Keith" Campbell, 69, of Oak Brook died unexpectedly but peacefully April 29, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and immediate family.
A devoted husband, cherished father and charismatic "Grampy," Keith was born to Mary Lou and Neil Campbell in St. Louis in 1952. After moving to Chicago in 1979, he met the love of his life, Linda Miller, six months later.
Keith was known for his quick wit, intellect and generous nature. Armed with a degree in chemical engineering from St. Louis University almost no task was insurmountable. For 20 years Keith led an illustrious career in chemical sales, where some of his proudest accomplishments were working with the NASA program in supplying the fuel that powered the solid rocket boosters for spacecraft launches and working with U.S. Defense Missile Initiative. He furthered his career by breaking into the telecom industry by leading a company that helped develop some of the technology that powers all of our cell phones today. At home, Keith was known as "Mr. Fix It" to his family, and would show up with his trusty bag of tools to help anyone at the mere mention of an issue.
Keith fought the good fight for 20 years, courageously facing cancer, COVID-19 and a triple bypass. He was defined by his strong will to live and zest for life. The simple pleasures brought him great joy. He loved his Bay View cottage, a round of golf on a beautiful day, a rare steak, a good Manhattan and above all his friends and family. His loved ones will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Campbell; his three children, William (Amanda) Campbell, Caitlin (Zach) Jecklin and Jonathan Campbell; his three grandchildren, Charles and Charlotte Campbell and Theodore Jecklin; his sister, Caroline (David) McCarthy; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held May 4 at Notre Dame Church in Clarendon Hills.
