Elizabeth ("Penny") Jamison-Butler, 80, of Clarendon Hills passed away Dec. 20, 2020.
After losing her husband, Skip, at 29 years old, Elizabeth passionately raised her two young children by herself, and was a celebrated first grade school teacher for 45 years. In addition to achieving her master's in education, she became a highly regarded reading specialist, which she continued post-retirement by volunteering and tutoring.
Known for her gift of gab, Elizabeth was always interested, curious and learning. Generous with her spirit, time, knowledge and sense of humor, Elizabeth was not easily forgotten once you met her. An avid gardener, crafter, traveler and volunteer, above all else, Elizabeth loved her family and made them her priority in life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard ("Skip") Jamison; and her son, John Richard Jamison.
She is survived by her recent husband, Charles Butler; her daughter, Heather Jamison (Paul) Mortell; her brother, Michael "John" Sotak; her daughter-in-law, Carla Jamison (Joseph) Cassidy; her grandchildren, John "Jack" and Molly Jamison; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
A celebration memorial will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 24, (COVID-19 permitting), at The Morton Arboretum, Sycamore Room, 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle, with a commemoration at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made online to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund at https://www.curealz.org.
