Henry L. "Hank" Soukup, 91, of Hinsdale and Naples, Fla., passed away May 6, 2021, in Lexington, Ken.
Hank was born in 1929 to Raymond and Alyda Soukup in Elmhurst. He graduated from Hinsdale Township High School in 1948 and went on to study at DePauw University and completed his bachelor's in business administration at the University of Michigan. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi.
Hank served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. He returned to co-manage Soukup's True Value Hardware of Hinsdale. Hank married Ann Butler in 1965 and together they started The Lair Antiques.
Hank was a member of the Ancient Free Accepted Masons Hinsdale Lodge No 934, the Hinsdale American Legion Post 250 and a lifetime member of Medinah Shriners. He was a member of Kiwanis, active in Hinsdale's business community and a volunteer for the Community Chest, the park commission, Habitat for Humanity and more. Hank was a member of the Union Church of Hinsdale. In retirement he also attended Naples United Church of Christ and the Hinsdale Covenant Church.
Hank's hobbies included travel, scuba diving, tennis, antiques, yoga, and keeping in touch with family and friends. Hank enjoyed sharing his knowledge gleaned from years in the hardware business the most. His passion was helping people.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Jane Boyd.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Soukup; his son, Andrew (Kathleen) Soukup; his daughter, Meghan (Tom Lefler) Soukup; his sister-in-law, Cynthia (Russ) Hammer; his step-grandchildren Erin (Clint) Eldred and Paul Eldred; his nephews, Michael, Kent (Tracy) and Peter Boyd; and his great-nieces Catherine (Clay) Smith, Lauren (Justin) Olson, Ashleigh (Virak) Inson and Rachael Boyd and their children.
