Richard L. “Dick” Berdelle, 92, of Hinsdale, died Aug. 6, 2021.
He was born in 1929 to Edward and Helen, nee McLaughlin, Berdelle.
Dick was a 1947 graduate of Leo High School and attended Marquette University and Marquette Law School, graduating in 1953.
He spent most of his legal career with the Pretzel and Stouffer law firm in Chicago as a senior and managing partner. In his day, he was known as one of the top personal injury trial lawyers in Chicago and served as a past president of two highly respected professional associations, the national Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel and the Society of Trial Lawyers. He represented physicians, pharmaceutical companies, businesses and individuals.
Dick loved work and family, was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing and watching tennis. He could often be found with his buddies, telling stories and playing cards at Butterfield Country Club. He was one of those rare individuals who could find the good in everyone he met. He genuinely gave his time and attention to all regardless of age or circumstance. He wanted to know about people and then share an experience or story to help them along the way. He was as generous as they come, a wonderful father, mentor and friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Dolores “Dottie” Berdelle, nee Dickman; and his brother, Jack (the late Marce) Berdelle.
He is survived by his children, Richard L. Jr. (Denise), Robert (Katrina) and James (Susan) Berdelle; his 11 grandchildren; and his 13 great-grandchildren.
