Joan R. Hoatson, 97, of Burr Ridge, a former longtime Hinsdale resident, passed away Aug. 16, 2021, at Amita Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.
She was born in Chicago in 1924 to the Valdimar J. and Madelyn K. Roehler. In 1942, she married James R. Hoatson Jr. in Lexington, Mo.
Joan enjoyed gardening, traveling and volunteering for various organizations. She was a member of the Fortnightly Club in Chicago and a past member of the Clarendon Hills Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago. She was a past board member of the Chicago Symphony, a University of Chicago Alumni and spent many years volunteering at Hinsdale Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Hoatson Jr .; and her daughter, Madelyn H. Crowe.
She is survived by her children, Katherine H. (Dan) Gullaksen and Cornelia H. (Frank) Mihelich; her grandchildren, Dana K. Gullaksen, Erin G. (Greg) Coomer, John J. (Tiffany) Gullaksen, Ramsey W. (Megan) Crowe, Elliott R. Crowe, Caitlin C. (Darrin) Velasquez and Sophia C. (Jarred) Snider; her great-grandchildren, Leif A. Coomer, Loren R. Coomer, Samuel E. Crowe and Jasper Snider; and her sister, Lynne Petersen.
Services and interment are private.
