Julie Ann Stec

Julie Ann Stec, 41, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 19, 2021.

She was born in 1980 in Chicago, but her heart and home were in the suburb of Hinsdale, where she grew up surrounded by her loving parents, siblings, uncles, aunts and many cousins.

Her passing is an immeasurable loss for those who were privileged enough to know and love her. No one could put Julie in a box. Always eccentric and flamboyant in her style, she was bold with fashion and made no apologies for it. She loved music, art and traveling - not because it was romantic or glamorous, but because she was philosophical and introspective, which allowed her to see and feel life deeply.

She was sharp and a great conversationalist, but she was an even better listener. She was tough and fearless, with an effervescent spirit that allowed her to bring comfort and joy to others even in the most somber of circumstances.

Julie had a natural servant's heart and found joy and value in helping people. She had a passion for caregiving, which she followed her entire life. She was a nanny for several years, which led her to eventually study education and become a teacher. Years later, she began working as a CNA at a nursing home, where she found purpose and meaning like never before. It inspired her to go back to school to become a nurse and follow in the medical footsteps of her father, a doctor who showed her what it meant to care for those who needed it the most. She served as a registered nurse risking her own health and safety on a daily basis to heal and advocate for the patients she cherished at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.

Julie loved many and was loved by even more. Her kindness, loving heart and unwavering energy will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her parents, Augustyn and Brenda Stec; her sisters, Renata (Colin) Hinkle, Monica (Christopher) Pajak, Susan Stec and Christine Stec; her brother, Alexander Stec; her nieces Sofia Pajak, Lilia Pajak and Charlotte Hinkle; and many extended family members.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 S. Grant St., Hinsdale.

Friends and family will gather at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, prior to a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 306 W. Fourth St., Hinsdale.

Interment is private.
