David Charles Ferguson, 59, retired master sergeant of the United States Air Force, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 3, 2022, at the age of 59 in San Antonio, Texas.
David was born in 1962. He grew up in Clarendon Hills and attended Hinsdale Central.
At 18 years old, David proudly joined the U.S. Air Force and served 20 years. His service took him all over the world, where he worked on the J-85 and the F-110, or as he called them, "the sound of freedom." He carried that knowledge and passion to a career with GE Aviation, where he continued to work with the service members he'd known from his time in the Air Force.
David was a devoted husband and father, and an avid baseball and football fan. He was a remarkable and skilled mechanic and lifelong learner. He had a passion for hopping into the kitchen and learning a new skill to share with those around him or heading out to his garage to craft a handmade cutting board or coffee table.
He made friends with incredible ease and loved them openly. He was deeply spiritual and spent his adult life seeking solace and guidance from that spirituality.
And above all else, he could spend an evening listening to '70s rock and dancing his version of the twist, bringing a smile to those with him.
He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Tanya; his two children, Brandon (Alicia) and Brittani (Casey), his eight grandchildren; his mother, Margaret; and his brothers, Dan (Cathy) and Doug and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; and his sister, Lisa.
No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. Please reach out to a family member if you wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made online to The Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.supportwoundedwarriorproject.org/donate), The Gary Sinise Foundation (https://www.garysinisefoundation.org), or the Fisher House Foundation (https://www.fisherhouse.org).
