Hinsdale Middle School students were again able to visit a "pop-up" World War II museum this month at HMS. The 10 exhibits were made up of artifacts from the Hinsdale Historical Society, Cantigny Museum and local families. Museum visitors also had the chance to hear from two speakers. Charlie Powers, father-in-law of HMS teacher Lisa Powers, shared his memories of the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the 8th Infantry. Claude Aschinberg, grandfather of former HMS students, shared his memoir "A Tale of War and Survival." And Wayne Messemer, the step-father of PTO mom and WWII Day co-chair Stephanie Konieczka, belted out the National Anthem to the assembled students. (Jim Slonoff photos)
