When did baseball first capture your heart?
Really when I moved to Chicago in first grade. My Central teammate Harry Fandre's mom kind of got me involved. Our senior group is especially tight. I'm definitely going to miss them. We played Little League together and onto Central.
What do you enjoy about the sport?
I just love how much the failures defines your success. It takes doing every small detail right, and if you don't do those right, then you're not going to win.
How have you improved since freshman year?
I made the switch from infield to outfield after my freshman year, and I feel like that has taken my game to another level. I've learned how to get a good jump and take a good route to the ball.
How would teammates describe you?
I think as super-competitive - maybe a little too tense - but overall a fun guy to be around. I'm a loud, vocal player. I'm the program's first two-time captain. It was a good experience, having players look up to you and depending on you.
Who do you look up to?
My dad. He's always on my a** about something, but he just wants me to be the best version of myself. He's a super-generous guy.
Were you in other Central clubs?
I was in Business Professionals of America for three years.
Do you have siblings?
My sister Jenna is going to be junior at Central.
Congratulations on your graduation. Where to now?
Jacksonville University (Fla.) to play baseball.
Summer plans?
I'm playing baseball for the Addison Braves in the college league.
Any other talents?
I've played the piano for 12 years. I've gotten pretty good.
Why does coach Jason Ziemer like having Edmonds on the squad?
Blake has had a massive impact on the baseball program during his four years. He was a three-year varsity player and two-time captain. His leadership on and off the field was unsurpassed by any player I have coached. He is the ultimate competitor and always put team first above individual accomplishments. He is a player that all younger players should try and emulate.
