All aboard - The book "Hinsdale" by Sandra Williams features this image of an early Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad engine. The CB&Q first considered bringing train service from Chicago to Aurora in 1858. "The railroad had great difficulty laying track over the wide, wet marsh between Western Springs and Hinsdale known as 'the flats'," the caption reads. "Carload after carload of rock was dumped into the swamp until a bottom was found. Finally, a 30-foot-wide cut, still evident, was made through Hinsdale's high ground to reach the prairie beyond." Do you have a Hinsdale photo that is at least 25 years old? We'd love to share it with our readers. Stop by our office at 7 W. First St. or email it to [email protected].
