The library is a wonderful place to visit during the winter. Checking out seasonal books, music and favorite movies feeds your festive spirit. You can relax and explore recipes or do some browsing for gift ideas at your own pace.
We provide all of these opportunities at the library, available whenever you're ready to partake. There is something for everyone. And for those in the community who can't regularly make it to us: we can come to you.
Doorstep Delivery is available to patrons unable to regularly travel to our building. Every Thursday our enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers visit the library to pick up pre-requested Doorstep Delivery bags. When they arrive at your doorstep, the volunteers pick up previous items that are ready for return and leave behind that week's items. Everything is delivered in waterproof bags and can be left at your front door or porch. Longterm residents of Magnolia Senior Living can return and collect their items at Magnolia's front desk. This can be a contactless service, so you don't even have to be at home when your delivery arrives.
Residents participate in Doorstep Delivery for any number of reasons: they're recovering from surgery, they walk to the library but cannot in winter, they are caring for a loved one full-time or they are simply unable to drive over on their own. We will work with you to meet your needs.
Receiving Doorstep Delivery is not a commitment to never visit the building again: we're happy to see you whenever you can come! You are always welcome to attend a program or visit and browse. Curbside pickup is still available by appointment Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. When visiting is a challenge, home delivery should make checking out and returning items easier and help you stay connected.
As a Doorstep Delivery participant, you will continue to receive whatever items you have registered for or placed on hold. If you joined HPL's Spice Club, we make sure your jar is included with your delivery. Are you interested in checking out a Roku to try out a streaming service? We are happy to send it over.
Does your book club check out their books from the library every month? You will still receive a copy. Do you love opening your HPL Book Box? You still can. We work with you to determine your preferences. Some people like to manage their own holds, and others send a list of requests for us to place and manage. Some patrons request two or three books each week, some take long pauses or check out books as they become available.
If you like to check out recommendations from staff, suggestions can be made based on your reading preferences. Staying connected is on your terms, too. We can set up a weekly phone call or email or check in on a different schedule.
Reach out to me at [email protected] or (630) 570-4387 if you are interested in more information or stop by the Patron Services Desk. We will work together to decide what is right for you. We hope to see you at the library, or perhaps you might see us on your doorstep.
