WATCKE NAMED PLAYER OF THE year
Hinsdale Central’s Dan Watcke has been named the 2022-23 Gatorade Illinois Boys Cross Country Player of the Year. This award “recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.” It also distinguishes Watcke as Illinois’ best high school boys cross country runner.
Watcke is now eligible for the Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Player of the Year award.
NAZ DANCE TEAM GOES TO STATE
Hinsdale’s Clare Beresford and the Nazareth Academy varsity dance team finished in fifth place at IHSA 1A sectionals to advance to the state finals — the first time in program history that the Roadrunners competed for a state title in back-to-back years.
The team came in 21st at the state finals in Bloomington last month.
SIJ TEAMS WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three teams from St. Isaac Jogues School in Hinsdale have won the Suburban Parochial League championship.
In addition to winning the championship, the seventh-grade boys basketball team had an undefeated season for the second year in a row. The team is coached by Mike Kurkowski and Mark Williams.
The seventh-grade girls volleyball team won the league championship after winning every game this season for the second year in a row. Liz Smith and Laura Tortorello are the team coaches.
Finally, the eighth-grade boys basketball team won the championship under the leadership of coaches Dan Devine, Joe Pavalon and John Wagner.
