Jill Frances Bates, née Olson, 83, died Feb. 17, 2023, at her home in Glen Ellyn.
Jill grew up in Illinois, California and Arizona and later returned to Illinois, where she attended Hinsdale Central High School. She married Otie Bates in 1956, and they began a family in Berwyn before moving to Golfview Hills in 1959 to raise their family of six children.
Jill was an artist. One of her mediums was quilting and she was an active member of The Faithful Circle Quilt Guild for 48 years. Jill worked throughout the Joliet Diocese during her long career, retiring from spiritual direction just months before her passing. Jill earned a doctorate of ministry in 1996, mirroring her deep and diverse spiritual life.
A Mass of Christian burial took place Feb. 23 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville.
Inurnment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
