NAZ GIRLS NET STATE TITLE

Gracie Carstensen of Hinsdale led the Nazareth Academy (LaGrange Park) girls basketball team to its first IHSA 3A state championship Saturday in Normal

Nazareth beat Lincoln High School (Peoria) 63-52 at the CEFCU Arena at Illinois State University. This is the first state title for the Roadrunners, who finished second in 2018 and 2022 and third in 2019.

Carstensen, a senior who has committed to play at DePaul University, exceeded 1,000 career points and was named to the Associated Press’ All State First Team and the East Suburban Catholic Conference All Conference Team.

Sophomore Josie Wagner of Hinsdale is also on the team.

“Congratulations to our girls basketball team for a simply incredible season,” Principal Therese Hawkins said. “They are wonderful examples of our pillars of scholarship, service, spirit and unity. We love this team and we are so proud to call them state champions!”
