Bob was born in 1949 to Robert H. Jeffers Jr. and Ruth Mary Mahan Jeffers in Leominster, Mass. From age 9 he grew up in Glen Ellyn, where he had a picture-perfect childhood that included Boy Scouts, tennis, stamp collecting and a door-to-door egg sales route. He graduated from Glenbard West in 1967 and Marquette University in 1971, as a member of Alpha Delta Gamma Fraternity with a bachelor’s in history.
He started his career in the credit department at Marshall Fields & Co., eventually landing a job at Illinois Bell. Illinois Bell transitioned into many divisions of AT&T, where he met and married Sara. Bob and Sara lived in Hinsdale for 34 years, raising Patrick & Maddie in their little red brick house with a white picket fence.
Bob was a great parent and volunteered with many of the kids’ activities. His favorite clothing style was shirts and sweaters emblazoned with his kids’ alma maters and schools where they taught: University of Tulsa, Montana State, Aaniiih Nakoda College, Indiana University, Pinon High School, and Plano High School. There was never a prouder dad.
Bob was an active participant in the Democratic Party of DuPage County for more than two decades. He served as precinct committeeman in both Milton and Downers Grove townships and was the treasurer of both townships as well. His experience enabled him to serve as the Democratic Party of DuPage County Treasurer for 24 years, stepping down in 2018. In recognition of his long-term commitment, he was awarded the Tinker Harvey Pioneer Award in 2012.
Bob retired from AT&T in 2015 after 37 years, avoiding 29 lay-offs and downsizings.
