Hinsdale police and fire department personnel responded to a fatal train versus pedestrian accident at the Vine Street pedestrian crossing at 11:02 a.m. Wednesday.
In a press release following the incident, police reported that a witness observed an adult man jump in front of a westbound freight train. The deceased victim was not a Hinsdale resident, according to the release, but police are not releasing further information pending notification of the next of kin.
All railroad grade crossings in Hinsdale were closed immediately following the incident except for the Stough crossing, and Metra reported extensive delays due to the incident.
