Louis "Lou" Bourjaily, 91, of Western Springs, a U.S. Army veteran, died Aug. 9, 2023.
He was born in 1932 to Louis and Ruth Bourjaily.
When people made friends with Lou, whether at St. Catherine's of Oak Park, Fenwick, the University of Notre Dame or St. John of the Cross, they had a friend for life. An avid golfer, bowler, card shark, Fighting Irish Fan, camera nut and world traveler, Lou loved and cherished his life. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and his love on earth was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rita, nee Conley; his children, Paul (Cecilia), Ann (Edward) Maney, Terese (Peter) Paltatzidis, John (Jennifer) and Mary Clare (Damon Jackson); his grandchildren, Cecilia (George) Hassan, Michelle Bourjaily (Oleg Kurbatskiy), Thomas, Mary Kate, Sean (Sydney) and Clara Maney, Anna (Rob) Reed, and Katie and Caroline Bourjaily; his siblings, Mary Anne Williams (the late Charles) and Richard (Lynne); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul (Barbara).
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside.
A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at the Alexine Chapel, 1515 W. Ogden Ave., LaGrange Park.
Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
