May brought the Northern Lights and noisy cicadas to remind us of just what a fascinating planet we inhabit.
Now on the doorstep of summer with June’s arrival Saturday, let’s remind ourselves of how much fun the community rolls out this season.
The 51st annual Fine Arts Festival is in Burlington Park this weekend, featuring works by 85 participating artists (see story on Page 21).
Monday, June 3, sees the return of the Farmers Market, another chamber event, at its familiar home on Chicago Avenue along Burlington Park. The market, featuring the produce of Midwest farmers along with specialty items and unique finds, runs from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday through Oct. 14.
Head back to Burlington Park the evening of Thursday, June 13, to welcome back the Uniquely Thursdays concert series — another chamber-sponsored favorite — headlined by the band Kelly Daniels. The Hinsdale Parks and Recreation Department invites all ages to enjoy a screening of “Trolls: Band Together” at 8 p.m. Friday, June 7 in Robbins Park, as the first of its Movies in the Park series. That will be followed by “Elf” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 19 (at the Hinsdale Community Pool as part of the pool’s Christmas in July event) and close with “Migration” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Robbins Park for back-to-school night.
The village and the Hinsdale Public Library are sponsoring three Wednesday Lunch on the Lawn events again this summer from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at Burlington Park. Miss Jamie’s Farm will entertain guests June 12, June B! and the Jelly Beans come to town July 17, and Gary Kantor will perform magic Aug. 14.

The library’s summer reading kickoff party will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, June 3, to encourage all readers to log their reading through July 31 for a chance at prizes. Other programs this summer for adults, teens and kids range from ukulele lessons and seashell painting to tips for multigenerational vacation and the practice of Qigong. As summer progresses, the chamber will sponsor the annual downtown sidewalk sale will be held from 9 to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 19-20.
