Karen Dombrowski, 65, of Burr Ridge passed away on July 29, 2024.
Karen was born in 1959 to Charles and Joan Dolezal. Karen married the love of her life, Don Dombrowski, in 1982. Together they enjoyed a life filled with laughter, adventure and love.
An exceptional student, Karen's thirst for knowledge made her a lifelong learner. She received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Elmhurst College in 1986, a master's degree in nursing from Benedictine University in 1996 and a doctorate in organizational development from Benedictine University in 2021. Her skills led her to a successful business career, allowing her to travel extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She was a longtime member of St Isaac Jogues Church in Hinsdale.
Karen was a classy lady, with many passions, one of which was photography. Framed pictures, taken by her, of sunsets and scenery fill the walls of her home. She loved to travel and enjoyed documenting special moments.
Karen loved the outdoors. She was an avid gardener and fond of her family's annual tomato harvest and finding a home for the plethora of tomatoes.
For many years, Karen could be found on weekends swimming, boating, fishing, playing cards and creating memories with family and friends in Delavan, Wis.
Karen lived for Christmas. She found pleasure in baking cookies, hosting family parties and the over-the-top Christmas decorations (inside and outside). From the classical Nutcracker to each Christmas tree and ornament, Karen found joy in it all.
Karen is survived by her husband, Don; her siblings, Dr. Edward (Carolyn Faehling) Dolezal and Laura (Ron) Bolanowski; and 21 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles (Melinda Smith) Dolezal.
A funeral Mass took place Aug. 7 at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Hinsdale.
Brian Powell Funeral Directors of Hinsdale handled the arrangements.
