Michael William Coyne, 82, of Oak Forest, passed away on Memorial Day, May 27, 2024.
Born in 1942, he was the beloved son of Bill and Agnes Coyne.
Michael retired as a firefighter/engineer with the Chicago Fire Department and had a distinguished career with the Hershey Chocolate Co., where he worked for more than 25 years. Alongside his wife, Lynne, he co-founded several successful businesses, including Municipal Equipment Co. and Sail4Less Travel Agency.
A entrepreneur and avid traveler, Mike had boundless energy and a wide circle of treasured friends. Above all, his greatest joys were traveling with his wife and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Michael’s wife of 63 years, Lynne D. Coyne (née Dolan), died Aug. 15. He was preceded in death by his brother, W. Patrick Coyne.
He is survived by his children, Cathleen (Steve) Hofmann of Hinsdale, Michael (Jane) Coyne, Caryn (Dan) Skiles and Patrick (Linda) Coyne; his grandchildren, Brian, John, Danny, Luke, Anne, Conor, Elisabeth, Callahan (Andrea), Aidan, William and Genevieve; his siblings, Daniel (Jayne) Coyne, Colleen Coyne (Gary) Burnette, and Kevin (Doris) Coyne; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Visitation is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 306 W. Fourth St., Hinsdale.
A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
Interment is private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
